Effects of low interest rates on banks

Low interest rates cause banks to lose profitability because they can't charge as much interest on loans made to consumers. Banks are encouraged to speculate on valuable assets, such as the stock market, government bonds, and other things. Because loans aren't as profitable for banks, the asset prices get pushed into a bubble.
